Philadelphia’s Playcaller Heads South

Kellen Moore’s coaching journey has taken a significant leap forward. Just days after guiding the Philadelphia Eagles' offense to a dominant Super Bowl LIX victory, Moore has officially been named the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The move, which had been anticipated for several days, was confirmed by NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo on Tuesday.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis wasted no time in making the announcement, personally informing other candidates that the position had been filled. The decision signals a new era in New Orleans as the franchise looks to rebuild under Moore’s leadership.

 

From Coordinator to Head Coach

At just 35 years old, Moore is stepping into his first head coaching role in the NFL, capping a meteoric rise through the coaching ranks. After a four-year stint as the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys (2018-2022), he spent 2023 in the same role with the Los Angeles Chargers before joining the Eagles for the 2024 season.

Despite his brief tenure in Philadelphia, Moore’s impact was undeniable. His offensive schemes helped the Eagles finish in the top eight in both total yards and points scored. Under his leadership, running back Saquon Barkley became only the ninth player in NFL history to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a season. The culmination of his efforts was on full display in Super Bowl LIX, where quarterback Jalen Hurts threw three touchdowns en route to a decisive 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Moore arrives in New Orleans with the task of reviving a struggling franchise. The Saints have missed the playoffs for three consecutive seasons and finished the 2024 campaign with a disappointing 5-12 record under Dennis Allen, leading to his dismissal.

Despite the challenges, there is optimism surrounding Moore’s arrival. His offensive-minded approach could breathe new life into a team that has struggled to find consistency on that side of the ball since the departure of legendary quarterback Drew Brees.
