Education and Networking Take Center Stage at Annual Convention

The OCW annual convention is set to bring together cattle producers, industry leaders and OCW members from all over the state in a few days filled with educational activities, leadership training and networking. Through the event, Oklahoma beef industry relations will be strengthened, as well as providing the members an opportunity to discuss critical issues facing ranchers and cattle producers.

As OklahomaCattleWomenPresident-Elect, Kelli Payne explains, the annual convention goes beyond just conducting business. Instead, it gives an opportunity for members from different regions in Oklahoma to meet up and learn from each other.

As per Payne, one of the major advantages of attending the annual convention is the good relations and connection among members of the Oklahoma CattleWomen and the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association. She says that participants enjoy catching up on old times while discussing issues such as livestock health, hay, weather and others.

New Sip and Shop Event Combines Fellowship with Fundraising

One of the highlights of this year's convention includes the very first "Sip and Shop." The gathering is planned for Friday evening, and the purpose is to have a relaxed atmosphere where women can network and help with the outreach program of the organization.

Items ranging from gently used clothing, jewelry, hats, purses, belts, accessories, and any fashion item are donated by members. As Payne explains, most members come from rural communities, and they find it difficult to donate good-quality clothing, hence the perfect opportunity for them to donate clothes within the cattle community.

People attending the gathering are invited to check out the donated items while having light snacks and talking. While buying anything is not mandatory, people will have an opportunity to contribute financially to the Oklahoma CattleWomen programs.

Leadership Development Remains a Core Mission

In addition to providing opportunities for shopping and socializing, Payne stated that the convention is an opportunity to demonstrate the organization’s dedication to leadership, mentorship, and development within the association.

After the convention, the organization will maintain the education process via the Behind the Gate sessions, one of which is planned for October, Oklahoma’s Best Beef Competition with branded beef producers, and continuing Ag in the Classroom program. Payne congratulated the organization’s leaders, county chapters, and increasing collegiate membership for promoting agriculture in the state, and called on the members to remain engaged throughout the year.
