BSNL Launches VoWiFi Service Across the Country So That Users Can Call Even without Mobile Signal

BSNL VoWiFi Service Now Available in India
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the government-run telecommunication company in India, has officially extended the range of its Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service to all the telecom circles of the country. The launch of this service was made known to BSNL’s customers via the company’s social media pages, and the service is now available to BSNL customers throughout the country starting in the first week of January 2026.
With VoWiFi, BSNL subscribers can make and receive voice calls and send and receive messages through any Wi-Fi network instead of using the regular mobile network. So, in areas where cellular coverage is poor or non-existent, VoWiFi allows uninterrupted communication.
How VoWiFi Works
VoWiFi simply takes advantage of the standard internet connections provided by Wi-Fi service providers such as BSNL Bharat Fibre or other broadband providers to make and receive calls. There is no need for an extra application since calls and texts still go through the usual mobile number of the customer and the phone dialer.
The tech uses an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) to facilitate communication and allows transition between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. This translates to the fact that if the Wi-Fi signal gets too weak during the call, the system can switch over to the cellular network without ending the call, but only if a mobile signal is around at some point.
Benefits for Users
Reliable Calling in No-Signal Areas
VoWiFi has the primary benefit of enabling users to maintain their connection regardless of the area with bad reception - including basements, inside structures, rural or isolated spots where the cellular signals are weak or non-existent. Wi-Fi calls might be louder and more stable than the calls made through a weak mobile network.
Free Service with No Extra Apps
Subscribers of BSNL are being provided the service of VoWiFi at no cost. No installation of extra apps or additional charges are required. Just activating the “Wi-Fi Calling” or VoWiFi option in mobile settings is all that is required to use it.
Compatibility and Activation
Default support of VoWiFi is there in almost all contemporary smartphones, nevertheless, BSNL users can follow these simple steps to turn on the feature:
- Connect to any Wi-Fi network.
- Make changes in the phone's network or call settings.
- Enable the Wi-Fi Calling / VoWiFi feature.
In case, the users are not sure about the VoWiFi compatibility of their device, they can either go to the nearest BSNL office or call BSNL customer care at 1800-1503 for help.
Why This Matters
The nationwide launch of VoWiFi is a very important event for BSNL. VoWiFi has made BSNL equal with private telecom providers like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea, who have all been providing their clients with Wi-Fi calling services.
The PSU has plans to cover the whole Indian audience with its connectivity by offering a good and dependable calling service even where cellular coverage is not so good. The service also represents BSNL's overall modernization of the network to improve customer satisfaction, particularly in the areas of call drops and voice quality problems, which are often associated with weak cellular networks.
