Nigeria has signed a major agreement to install 50,000 solar-powered streetlights that also function as AI data centers. The deal between Katsina State and UK-based Conflow Power Group demonstrates how urban areas combine traditional infrastructure with cutting-edge technological advancements.
The state will receive lighting from streetlights which operate as iLamp units while they provide computing resources throughout the area. This system enables the establishment of multiple smaller data centers which operate throughout the network instead of depending on a single main data center.
What the Smart Streetlights Can Do
The system operates on solar power while it has integrated artificial intelligence processing units. The system provides support for public Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices and LED lighting systems. Some units can also include cameras and monitoring tools, depending on regulations.
The complete implementation will provide a computing capacity that reaches 13.75 PetaOPS. This system processes data at its origin point which increases operational speed and processing efficiency.
