GE HealthCare and Catholic Health Announce Major Long-Term Alliance

GE HealthCare has formed a 10-year strategic partnership worth about $500 million with Catholic Health to enhance healthcare on Long Island in New York. This partnership is referred to as a Care Alliance and its main objective is to increase the availability of advanced imaging technology, precision diagnostics, and Artificial Intelligence-based technologies, and upgrading the medical infrastructure of the entire health system.

This partnership is among the largest Care Alliance partnerships of GE HealthCare with any US health care organization. It involves medical technology, digital technologies, equipment management and support to enable Catholic Health to provide better patient care.

More Than 1,300 New Medical Technologies Planned

As part of the joint venture, Catholic Health will deploy more than 1,300 units of equipment in its six hospitals and at more than 40 of its ambulatory care centers. Roughly half of these deployments are projected to occur in the first three years.

The new equipment will include:

• MRI machines
• CT scanners
• PET/CT scanners
• Nuclear medicine systems
• Ultrasound equipment
• Mammogram equipment
• X-ray systems
• Cardiology diagnostic equipment
• Maternal and neonatal monitoring equipment

The goal is to provide access to specialized care in cardiology, oncology, neurology, gynecology, and other important clinical areas.

AI to Improve Clinical Operations and Patient Care

Apart from the new imaging equipment, the collaboration will incorporate the use of AI technology for scheduling, diagnostics, monitoring of patients, and the functioning of the hospital in general.

GE HealthCare will offer digital tools, which will work on an individual machine, departmental level, and even the whole healthcare system. The collaboration also involves cloud-based workflow solutions like Imaging 360, which help doctors to coordinate the provision of imaging services efficiently.

The collaboration will include a multivendor service solution, which will increase the performance efficiency and reduce equipment downtime at Catholic Health.

Also, GE HealthCare will have a cardiovascular scientist embedded into Catholic Health’s system to assist the medical staff in cardiac imaging and treatment processes.

Improving Access to Specialized Healthcare Across Long Island

Catholic Health said that the partnership is an indicator of its longstanding dedication towards making the best healthcare services available in the community.

This investment will help make advances in cardiac imaging available at outpatient sites and incorporate new technologies that help to reduce the gap between the time when a cancerous condition is diagnosed and the treatment starts. Other innovations include the introduction of contrast enhanced mammography and improvements in maternal and infant monitoring.

The representatives of both organizations noted that the partnership emphasizes combining the latest technologies with caring treatment while establishing a better basis for future healthcare delivery.

The partnership continues the relationship between the two organizations and shows how important the establishment of long-term collaborations becomes to update infrastructure and implement AI solutions in healthcare during the next decade.
