Nintendo’s Ocarina of Time Remake Brings a Classic Zelda Adventure to Switch 2
Entertainment & Media

Nintendo has brought one of its most celebrated video game adventures back to a new generation of players. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake launched for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, featuring updated visuals, expanded storytelling and modernized gameplay controls.
Nintendo is revisiting one of its most influential gaming titles as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of The Legend of Zelda franchise. Originally released in 1998, Ocarina of Time returns with a redesigned presentation intended to preserve the original adventure while making it more accessible to today's players.
The remake features significantly improved graphics, fully voiced cutscenes, expanded character dialogue and symphonic orchestral music. Nintendo has also updated camera and movement controls, allowing players to navigate the world of Hyrule with greater flexibility.
A Familiar Adventure With Modern Improvements
The original Ocarina of Time introduced players to a large fantasy world filled with memorable characters, challenging puzzles and an adventure centered on Link's journey.
For the Switch 2 version, Nintendo has reworked several elements of the experience. Players can move the camera using the right stick, enjoy redesigned environments and experience a day-and-night cycle that continues even while exploring towns.
The updated version also introduces a feature called Threads of Time, which allows players to follow their story progress and check their next objectives during the adventure.
Another notable addition involves the game's iconic ocarina. Players can hum melodies that Link has learned, allowing the character to perform the corresponding tunes in the game.
Why Nintendo Decided to Remake the Classic
The decision to revisit Ocarina of Time was not based on nostalgia alone. Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma explained that the remake also offered an opportunity for younger members of Nintendo's development team to understand the original game's design and creative approach.
In a developer interview published by Nintendo, Aonuma discussed how many members of the current development team had primarily worked on newer Zelda titles. Rebuilding the classic adventure, he said, could give those developers valuable insights that may influence future projects.
Aonuma also gave the development team considerable freedom to decide which elements should remain unchanged and which could be improved. He said he was impressed by how carefully the team approached the original experience.
Additional Features Through the Zelda Notes App
Nintendo is also expanding the experience through its Zelda Notes service, available through the Nintendo Switch App on compatible smart devices.
The service includes adventure tracking, location-based hints, a virtual ocarina and a daily knowledge quiz featuring more than 2,000 questions. These additions give players new ways to explore the game beyond its main storyline.
Nintendo has listed the US regular price of the game at $59.99. Availability and pricing may vary by region.
A Major Moment for The Legend of Zelda's 40th Anniversary
The remake is part of a wider celebration marking four decades of The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo has also announced anniversary-themed hardware and accessories, a global concert series planned for 2027, and a live-action Zelda film scheduled to reach theaters worldwide on April 30, 2027.
The return of Ocarina of Time highlights Nintendo's continued interest in bringing its classic franchises to newer audiences while maintaining the experiences that helped establish their legacy.
For longtime fans, the remake offers another opportunity to revisit a landmark adventure. For newer players, it provides a modern way to discover one of the most important entries in the Zelda series.
