New Cyberattack Disrupts French Postal and Banking Services

La Poste Hit by Cyberattack Again
On January 1, 2026, the national postal and financial services of France experienced another disruption due to a cyberattack. The online platforms of La Poste and La Banque Postale, the banking subsidiary of La Poste, were totally inaccessible for several hours, resulting in a large number of customers not being able to use the services online at all on Thursday morning.
Official Message on Service Disruption
In case users tried to go to the postal service’s website, they saw a note saying that “the laposte.fr site and all of La Poste’s information systems are under a cyberattack at the moment.” Along with that, La Banque Postale’s website and application were mostly out of service, which in turn hindered daily banking access.
Connection to Previous Attack
The most recent event comes on the heels of a significant denial-of-service (DoS) attack incident that lasted from December 22, 2025, till December 26. The previous attack was such that it made server access extremely slow or even totally blocked, and it lasted much longer than usually the case for this kind of attack. The customers faced trouble with online parcel tracking during that whole period, albeit the physical deliveries were unaffected and thus went on as usual.
Hacker Group Claims Responsibility
French officials reported that the pro-Russian hacker group NoName057(16) took credit for the December assault. La Poste has lodged a complaint and asserted that no customer information was taken, emphasizing that a denial-of-service attack does not mean intruders get access to internal systems.
Official Investigation Launched
The Paris prosecutor's office has started a formal inquiry into the occurrence. The matter has been given to the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and the national cyber unit to investigate the extent of the assault and point out the culprits. The latest incident has brought up worries about the ability of essential public services to withstand constant cyber threats.
Customer Impact and Services
Since activities directed at online systems, the main impact was on digital access to postal and banking services. In addition to not being able to track parcels or access mobile banking, many customers were also reported to be less affected by usual postal and banking operations through physical locations.
