Rice University Honors the Virani Family with New Business Building

It is indeed a matter of much delight for the management of Rice University to declare that their upcoming structure meant to host the business school and to be ready before 2026 will carry the name "Asha and Farid Virani Hall" because of an unprecedented donation presented to them by Houston-based entrepreneur Farid Virani and Rice University graduate Dr. Asha Virani.

The declaration was made after an immensely important donation was received from the Viranis which led to the creation of the Virani Undergraduate School of Business.

A Modern Facility Designed for Growth

The Asha and Farid Virani Hall is under construction near the McNair Hall, which has been the home of Rice Business for decades. The hall will substantially increase the business education facilities of the university, providing additional classrooms, collaboration spaces, office space for faculty members, and space for students.

The construction of the expansion has started in 2024 and the hall will open for the students in 2026. This expansion aims at accommodating the fast-growing Rice Business along with uniting the programs of undergraduate business education and entrepreneurship in one place.

Historic Gift Strengthens Undergraduate Business Education

Founder and CEO of Prime Communications Farid Virani and Asha Virani, a 1989 graduate of Rice, have made what has been called a "historic gift" aimed at enhancing Rice University's program of undergraduate business studies.

The gift is meant to enhance curriculum building, student programming, faculty leadership, as well as expansion of the undergraduate business program, introduced only two years ago in 2021 but already regarded as one of Rice University's most rapidly growing programs, where over 300 students are currently registered in the program.

The funds will be used to enhance opportunities in such areas as artificial intelligence, energy transition, healthcare, nonprofit administration, and urban development. Furthermore, the funds will be used for the creation of an associate dean post for undergraduate business studies.

University Leaders Welcome the Milestone

The donation was deemed as revolutionary by Rice president, Dr. Reginald Desroches, with an assertion that it would improve leadership, entrepreneurial abilities, and innovations for many years ahead. Rice’s dean, Peter Rodriguez, further thanked the Virani family for the family's longstanding dedication to Rice and to the Houston community.

On the occasion of the unveiling of the name of the Virani Undergraduate School of Business, Rice University administrators, the faculty, students, alumni, and business people from Houston came together to acknowledge the donation of the family. The student leaders appreciated the donation since it gave undergraduate business students more identity in the university.

The Virani Family's Vision for Future Leaders

According to Farid Virani, the mission of the family is to develop future generations of business leaders that not only innovate but also have a high sense of ethics and are committed to serving society. Asha Virani, on her part, expressed the desire that the school should produce lifelong curious and compassionate leaders who are humble and lead by example.

The launching of the Asha and Farid Virani Hall in 2026 at the Rice University will help the university to reinforce its position as a leading place of study for business education and innovation.
