Hill’s journey with Nike began in earnest in 1988 when he pursued an internship after pestering Nike executive Tim Joyce for six months. His determination paid off, and thus began a meteoric rise through Nike’s ranks. Starting as a sales intern, Hill quickly showcased his talent, moving from a team sports division director to the VP of global retail. His final position before retirement was the president of Nike’s consumer and marketplace division from 2018 to 2020.
Post-retirement, Hill remained active in business, founding Open Road Resources and advising various companies. Despite his fulfilling second chapter, he often found himself yearning for the thrill of direct involvement—a feeling that urged him back to Nike when the opportunity arose.

Hill officially took over from John Donahoe, who had led Nike through the pandemic with mixed results.
