Babson’s New Master’s Program Lets You Earn a Degree While Launching Your Startup

Babson College Introduces an Online Master’s Program for Future Entrepreneurs
Babson College has recently announced an innovative online graduate course aimed at future entrepreneurs who seek to establish their own enterprise while obtaining a master's degree. Babson's Master of Science in Management in Business Creation (MSBC) program is a combination of traditional education and business practice that enables students to develop their own enterprises during the course rather than after graduation when they have already obtained their master's degree.
Students Build Their Own Business Throughout the Program
In contrast to the typical graduate programs that emphasize learning through classroom teaching, the MSBC program gives precedence to the creation of a venture. The program takes about two years to complete, and during this period, students are supposed to work on refining their own business concepts, which are taught by Babson faculty and entrepreneur mentors of the college.
By the end of the program, the graduates not only possess a master’s degree but also a business idea that is ready to be invested in and developed into a successful venture.
Flexible Learning Designed for Working Professionals
The program is conducted fully online in a flexible, part-time mode of delivery that makes it convenient for working professionals wishing to pursue their studies alongside work. The coursework is a combination of both self-study and class discussions guided by the faculty members that create an environment for collaboration and mentoring.
All through the course of the study, the students are mentored by Babson College faculty members that teach graduate courses within the college. This method of teaching integrates theory and practice, where students put their learnings into practice at all times.
Babson Focuses on Learning Through Action
The program is based on the Babson College’s well-known Entrepreneurial Thought & Action (ET&A®) model that fosters entrepreneurial thinking and learning through testing ideas in practice rather than theoretical considerations alone. It has been integral to Babson’s approach to entrepreneurship education for years and helps students from the inception of their idea to its validation and commercialization.
Babson College president Stephen Spinelli Jr. believes that many entrepreneurs in the making have felt that they have to choose between a graduate education and entrepreneurship. He stated that the new program had been developed in order to make sure that these two objectives could be achieved simultaneously.
Exclusive Venture Competition Gives Students Real-World Experience
An important aspect of MSBC is The Chomper, which is a unique business competition for students enrolled in the program. In this competition, the contestants present their business concepts to a jury consisting of experienced entrepreneurs and business leaders.
This competition is a great chance for the founders to get valuable advice from experienced people along with improving their ventures before they enter the market officially.
Part of Babson’s Broader Expansion in Graduate Education
The MSBC is one initiative of several that Babson College has embarked on in its strategy for growth. Some of the new initiatives include online graduate certificates, master’s programs, and professional education programs.
“With this degree program, Babson College combines our entrepreneurial teaching techniques, faculty mentoring, venture creation, and international community to help students develop the confidence necessary to turn their innovative ideas into successful enterprises,” noted Provost and Executive Vice President Ariel Armony.
Applications are now open for the online Master of Science in Management in Business Creation degree program which will start enrolling students in the spring 2027 semester.
