Kanye West's Mask-Wearing Antics Land Him in Legal Trouble on Venice Holiday
Entertainment & Media
Kanye West is facing potential legal trouble while on his extended vacation in Italy with his partner, Bianca Censori. Exclusive reports from MailOnline reveal that West has been repeatedly wearing a face mask in public, which is a violation of Italian law. Under Italian anti-terror and public order legislation, it is illegal to wear anything that obstructs a person's identification. This offense can result in a maximum fine of up to 2,000 Euros. West has been spotted wearing a mask in various Italian cities, including Venice, Florence, and Milan, where they attended Fashion Week.
Additionally, West and Censori are currently under investigation in Venice for a controversial incident that occurred on a water taxi last month. Photos captured Censori wearing an outfit that exposed her bare buttocks while kneeling in front of West.
The legal concern arises from article 533 of Italian law, which was introduced in 1977 to combat domestic terrorism. In 2005, the law was updated to prohibit the wearing of full face coverings in public places, unless for religious reasons and with proper authorization.
Italian lawyer Angelo Russo clarified that wearing any item that covers the face and hinders identification is considered an offense. The law was initially introduced to address domestic terrorism and was further tightened after international terror attacks. Exceptions are made for winter scarves or balaclavas, but wearing a full face covering at other times, especially in good weather, is considered unreasonable and allows the police to stop and question the individual.
The investigation in Venice is also examining whether the couple violated public decency, which could result in fines. Venice has strict bylaws regarding public decorum, including prohibitions on swimming in canals, having open-air picnics, and lounging on the steps of public buildings.
It remains to be seen whether Kanye West will face legal consequences for wearing a face mask in violation of Italian law during his Italian holiday.
