A $6 million investment has facilitated Ohio's new initiative for young resident's driver education and training enhancement. Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel publicized together the funding that is connected with the Drive to Succeed program, which is on the shelf of the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. This program provides scholarships to more than 10,000 individuals under 21. It is intended to cover all 88 counties and thereby make young drivers familiarize themselves with the theory and practice of safe and self-assured driving.

Educational Service Centers to Distribute Scholarships

The funds will be distributed equally to four regional Educational Service Centers, with each center getting $1.5 million over two years. The centers that are involved in the project are the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center, Fairfield County Educational Service Center, Midwest Regional Educational Service Center, and North Central Ohio Educational Service Center. Every center will be responsible for the scholarships in its area so that the lack of financial means will not hinder the access to necessary driving training.

Comprehensive Training for Young Drivers

The scholarships available in this scheme pay for the 24 hours of classroom instruction and eight hours of behind-the-wheel training, which are required to obtain a driver's license in Ohio. The program is designed in a way that combines practical driving experience with classroom learning, thus making the young drivers adequately prepared for safe road navigation. The Drive to Succeed program that started in 2022 has given more than 5,100 students help through scholarships that diminish the cost of driver education. The Educational Service Centers will take 150 days to establish their scholarship programs.
